The Human Element
My background in Forensic Mental Health education and 3D photogrammetry taught me the absolute necessity of precision and spatial logic. Today, I apply that same rigorous structural thinking to software architecture and end users as and when issues arise.

Prior Discipline: Forensic Mental Health Training
The rigour required in forensic case formulation is not unlike the rigour required in complex systems architecture. Both reward precise reasoning, careful documentation, and calm under pressure.
Demis Cunningham completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Working with People with Personality Disorder at the University of Nottingham's Institute of Mental Health (2013–2015). The programme was funded by the Ministry of Justice (NOMS) and validated by The Open University.
He was a senior KUF (Knowledge and Understanding Framework) trainer with a background in forensic mental health training. He co-delivered the training programme evaluated in Brown, Beeley, Patel & Völlm (2018), Criminal Behaviour and Mental Health, 28(1), 50–60 — part of the University of Nottingham IONNA project on forensic case formulation for high-risk personality-disordered offenders (see also Völlm 2014; Brown & Völlm 2013; Brown & Völlm 2016).
He presented at the UK Critical Psychiatry Network annual conference alongside Dr Neil Gordon (Senior Fellow, Institute of Mental Health) and Andrea Milligan (KUF BSc Programme Lead, IMH) on the contribution of the National KUF to working with people diagnosed with personality disorder.
Cunningham was involved in developing and piloting KUF training packages, including work with the service-user-led organisation Emergence, probation services in Yorkshire and Humber, and voluntary work with Staffordshire and West Midlands Probation Trust. He also participated in Circles of Support and Accountability with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation.
Between 2010 and 2012, Cunningham delivered KUF training to staff within the Personality Disorder Directorate at Broadmoor Hospital. During his later visits to Broadmoor, he also contributed to the development of the hospital's Recovery College through participation in patient focus groups and service-user involvement activity.
